On National Afforestation Day, Saplings Met with Soil at MAKÜ

In Burdur, within the scope of the 11 November National Afforestation Day events, 2,023 saplings were planted on the Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) Lavender Hill Hotel road.

In Burdur, within the scope of the 11 November National Afforestation Day events, 2,023 saplings were planted on the road to Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) Lavanta Tepesi Hotel.

Burdur Governor Türker Öksüz, Burdur Mayor Ali Orkun Ercengiz, Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar, Forest Management Director Sefa Karataş, protocol members, institution directors, employees, Youth Center students, academicians, and the people of Burdur attended the sapling planting event.

The event, which started with a moment of silence and the singing of our National Anthem, included speeches by Forest Management Director Sefa Karataş and Burdur Governor Türker Öksüz on the occasion of 'National Afforestation Day'. 

Governor Türker Öksüz said, “Today, we will bring 2,023 saplings together with the soil in the İstiklal Campus of our Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, in honor of the 100th year of our Republic. In total, 16,300 saplings will be planted in a 5-hectare forest area within the campus, including this area. Additionally, a total of 25,300 saplings of various species will be planted in the 14-hectare 100th Year Republic Forest, which will be created in 11 different locations in our city center and districts.”

Forest Management Director Sefa Karataş said, “With the saplings we will plant on this precious day, we will breathe life into the second century of our Republic. I would like to thank you, dear Green Turkey enthusiasts, who share this excitement with us, on behalf of myself and our organization. In the 5-hectare forest area, which has been projected as the 100th Year Republic Forest and prepared for sapling planting, 16,300 saplings of 15 different species, including Black Cypress, Blue Cypress, Horse Chestnut, Fir, Blue Spruce, Black Pine, Oleaster, Juniper, Cedar, Wild Pear, Spindle Tree, Hawthorn, False Acacia, Rosemary, and Lavender, will be planted, and today we will bring 2,023 of these saplings together with the soil with you, our esteemed guests.”

After the speeches, the sapling planting area was visited. Governor Türker Öksüz, Mayor Ali Orkun Ercengiz, MAKÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar, and the participants brought the saplings together with the soil and gave them their first water. The participants took commemorative photos next to the saplings planted in memory of the day. The program ended after the refreshments offered to the participants.
